Terpene MOQ and Price Breaks: What Changes at Each Volume Tier

There is no minimum order. You can buy one 5 mL bottle of any Native® or Inspired® blend for $35 and nobody will ask what you plan to do with it.

That is the honest answer, and it is also the least useful one, because the question behind "what is your MOQ" is almost never about the minimum. It is about where the price stops punishing you for buying small. That has an answer, and it is more specific than most suppliers will give you.

The ladder, in full

Native® and Inspired® blends share one price ladder. Here it is with the per-milliliter rate worked out, which is the number that actually decides anything.

Size Price Per mL
5 mL $35 $7.00
30 mL $170 $5.67
60 mL $300 $5.00
120 mL $450 $3.75
500 mL $1,700 $3.40
1,000 mL $2,650 $2.65

Two things stand out once it is laid out like that.

The first is the size of the total spread. A liter costs 2.6 times less per milliliter than a 5 mL bottle. That is a big gap, and it is roughly what you would expect: you are paying for filling, labeling and shipping one container instead of two hundred.

The second is where the gap actually closes, which is not where most people assume.

The 120 mL rung is the one to look at

Walk up the ladder and watch the per-milliliter rate fall: $7.00, then $5.67, then $5.00, then $3.75.

That step from 60 mL to 120 mL is the biggest single improvement on the whole ladder. You double the volume and the rate drops 25%. Nothing else comes close. Going from 120 mL to 500 mL, more than four times the volume, only buys you another 9%. Going from 500 mL to a full liter buys 22%, but it costs $950 to find out.

So if you are trying to work out where to sit, the honest guidance is that 120 mL is where the pricing stops being small-format pricing. Below it you are paying a convenience rate. Above it you are into genuine bulk, and the marginal savings get thinner while the cash and the shelf-life risk both get heavier.

Most brands running a single SKU should be buying 120 mL until they know the profile is staying in the line.

What that means in a finished product

Per-milliliter rates are abstract until you put them against a batch.

Take a vape cart at a 5% terpene loading, which sits in the normal range for distillate. One liter of finished oil takes 50 mL of terpene. At the 120 mL rate that is $187.50 of terpene. At the liter rate it is $132.50. The difference across that batch is $55.

Now scale it. If you are running 20 liters of finished oil a month, you need a liter of terpene, and the gap between buying it as one liter and buying it as eight 120 mL bottles is about $1,100 a year on a single profile.

That is a real number, but notice what it is not. It is not the number that decides whether the product works. Our guide on terpene dosing by product type covers what loading each format actually needs, and getting that wrong costs considerably more than $1,100.

The blending calculator will do this arithmetic against your own batch size if you want to see where your volume lands on the ladder.

Buying small without paying the small-format rate

The one place the ladder does not apply is sample packs, and it is worth understanding why.

A sample pack is $80 for six 5 mL bottles. Thirty milliliters in total, which works out at $2.67 per milliliter. That is essentially the liter rate, and it is well under the $5.67 you would pay for a single 30 mL bottle of one blend.

You are not being charged a small-format premium there. The packs exist to get profiles in front of you, so they are priced to be bought rather than to make margin. If you are evaluating rather than producing, a sample pack is the cheapest terpene you can buy from us per milliliter, short of committing to a liter of something you have not tested.

The trade-off is that you get six different profiles at 5 mL each, not 30 mL of the one you want. It is an evaluation tool, not a supply route.

When the ladder is the wrong question

Three situations where volume pricing is not what should be driving the decision.

You have not settled the profile. Buying a liter to save $0.35 a milliliter is a false economy if you end up reformulating. The cost of a wrong liter is the liter, plus the distillate you put it in, plus the hardware you filled, plus the sell-through you did not get. Test first.

Your throughput is seasonal. Terpenes are volatile and they oxidize. A liter that sits half-used in a warm room for eight months is not the same liter that arrived. Our guide on shelf life and storage covers the controls, but the short version is that buying more than you will turn over inside a couple of quarters can quietly cost more than the discount saved.

You are running Live Derived®. That line sits on its own, higher ladder, and the arithmetic is different enough that it deserves its own treatment. We covered when the premium tier earns its cost in a separate guide.

What we will do

We will talk through your run size honestly, including telling you when you are about to buy more than you need. Multi-liter and standing-order pricing is a conversation rather than a published number, so if your volumes are heading that way it is worth asking.

FAQ

What is the minimum order for terpenes?

There is not one. The smallest unit is a 5 mL bottle at $35 for Native® and Inspired® blends. Sample packs start at $80 for six 5 mL bottles.

Where is the biggest price break?

Between 60 mL and 120 mL. The per-milliliter rate falls from $5.00 to $3.75, a 25% improvement for doubling the volume. No other step on the ladder does that.

How much does a liter of terpene cost?

$2,650 for Native® and Inspired® blends, which is $2.65 per milliliter. Live Derived® sits on a separate, higher ladder.

Is a sample pack good value per milliliter?

Yes. At $80 for 30 mL it is $2.67 per milliliter, close to the liter rate and much better than a single 30 mL bottle at $5.67. It is priced to be evaluated with, not to make margin.

Do you offer volume discounts beyond a liter?

Multi-liter and standing-order pricing is a conversation rather than a published number, because it depends on the blend, the schedule and the format. Bring your monthly volume and it can be answered quickly.

Where to take this next

Work out your loading and your monthly volume first, then find the rung. If you want a second opinion on which one fits, talk to us about your run size and we will tell you where you should be sitting, including when that is lower than you expected.
